What Did They Want?
what did you want me to be
the alka seltzer for your past?
the aspirin for your childhood –
still in a plaster cast
the tissue for your tears –
and quivering lip
the band aid for your wound –
that continues to drip
what did you want me to be
my trust was not enough
they played a forward pass
and kicked madness into touch
when honestly asked
