i woke up
and as the canvas
began to fade
as the colours
of the nightmare
began to run and melt

i opened my eyes
i rolled over and i sighed
i baulked and almost died
your cold fingertips,
press against the frozen ice

they will rebel
once the blanket is removed
and the truth we tell –
stops being a murmur
and matures into a yell

it is the tiles
the beams, the roof
