Illusions of Innocence

why is it –
every day before this one
seems –
more carefree
and more innocent
than –
the days we face now

somehow –
memory can talk down
stress and strain
why is it –
every song we hear now
feels more serious
and less carefree
than the songs
we listened to all those years ago

why is it –
all those years ago
seem so based in some kind of fun
when we had no money –
and nothing was ever truly done

why does the world –
of many years ago
feel so much more innocent
and more carefree
than the world we face today
