Trenches and Ditches

Trenches and Ditches

i saw their dreams
scattered across the land
i saw their hopes, anchored,
to failure, and a feeling that we cannot –
understand

i saw weather vanes twist and turn
caught in nightmares
that continue to burn
who is our schooling fooling –
when we fail to ever truly learn

i saw people
championing their latest cause
as fear crippled our need
and forced it onto all fours

i saw retention in their eyes
and all the poorly fought wars
this is where are,
fighting our way, out of,
societies trenches and ditches
arguing, morally,
over our, ‘riches’
fighting for equalities in a society
that relies on complete inequality,
to function

it is the inequality,
that equals the standard queue
and that search for equality
spills over to a power urge
and then, when we have finished fighting
we still do not know who to pursue
