We Shared an Alphabet (Just Not the Same Letters)
i am the shape
of the hope once shared
i am the reflection of the love
for which she could not care
i am the contents
of the drink she could not swallow
and I am the escapism
found in her hollow
she is the leaf,
of the autumn
that never quite took place
she is the starter pistol that never fired
and I am the race
she is the thoughts
i reflect in my dreams
she is made of my emotions
the ones i have never seen
she is the beauty
i traded in long ago
the convoy of aid,
that drives too slow
she is the shape
of something that we once had
something that could have been better
we shared an alphabet
just not the same letters
