that was hard…
pictures of mum
i am, as ever –
undone
even after all these years
i wonder –
if one more time
i could hear her voice
loud and clear
that was my wish
over this weekend
when i slid down the slide
of absent friends
what a lot,
of contained emotion

pictures of mum
and her awkward commotion
just one more time
let’s have one more phone call
one more trip,
to a cafe or the supermarket
but years move on
they gather you up
and when loved ones are gone
they bluntly remind you
that life does go on
