I Would Like You to Stay
when the joke reaches its destination
and runs out of steam
when the smile falls away
i am this human being
i am scared that i may –
just like you
more than i care to admit
so far, it has been different trains
which i have skipped
i am nervous –
because i think about you
in between the shards of time
that pierce events in my day
i am deeply insecure –
because i like what you say
it reels me in –
and stops my natural sway
this is what i am underneath
in-between the bursts of sunshine
and the chattering teeth
i am scared to say –
all this nonsense
i do not want you to go away
what i really mean to say –
is that i would like you to stay
