All I Ever Wanted – Written Friday 10th November 1995 (Aged 20)

All I Ever Wanted

thanks for taking me down
how does that make you feel
need time to repair my mental health
it was a lovely garden to play in my childhood
if you judge me in terms of material wealth
but that is not what a child needs
in needs parents in whom they can believe
to help them through those younger years
a child’s emotional demands can be strong
as you learn to cope with the laughter and tears
you remember it is your responsibility, you bought them along
it is not presents children need
it is a bit of love and understanding
parents have to be super human
of course it is impossible
but they have to be the best they can
children are not stupid, show them they matter
and they will understand
you cannot always make them turn out right
sometimes they are out of control, nothing you can do
but please try your best
thanks for not understanding
how can it be, so much space between us
now we are just sightseers in each others lives
i cannot expect you to be perfect
but how can you so easily be blinded
so small minded
how can you hurt me so much and not realise
as you don’t, there is no point in trying to apologise
