Today (A Short Story)
i moved along today,
always facing the wind—
my head spinning,
lost on some planet,
like pluto.
at the stop,
i waited
for the monster with seats;
it took an eternity to come.
a sun-kissed girl
from my past
sat with me,
on that polluted dinosaur.
we talked so fast,
education was a bore—
and she,
a woman of words,
so absurd.
this morning,
i rocked and cried—
my sleep undone,
my hair rebelling,
my eyes weak and worn.
feelings of the past
opened channels of visions,
ones that could never last.
why do i feel so heavy?
will my worded friend
be there, at the end?
to cheer myself,
i slipped your photo
into my mind.
it lit me up,
but it didn’t make me kind.
here’s to you—
lovely,
a girl,
such a twirl.
