You Know I Drown in a Drop of Affection
of course –
you know a drop of affection drowns me
a snippet of praise
burns me as if it was acid
and being run down
can make you complicit
so when you praise me
or when you find new quarters
in my city like personality
i shut down and my chest becomes tight
a lack of praise –
though wrong, was often right
so apologies for the weak response
and the plain jane words
i can tell you the feelings are there
even if the response is absurd
