i know that you claimed independence
and that,
all those years,
have been about reclaiming dependence
and i see you standing outside
somehow, not fitting in
seeking acceptance
and hoping for a place to begin
i feel so sad,
that i never for the green light
and yet how i have chased the chequered flag
i know that you cannot change the grain
and that every rug that’s pulled,
tells a story of unresolved pain
yet you are not to blame
and in your own way you’re a form of glory
but sometime what you say really hurts
it has a vicious sting in its tail
it feels like a rodeo,
held on the things in which i always fail
