Nettles and Bracken – Written Thursday 4th May 2023 (Aged 48)

Nettles and Brackens

i need that closeness
to feel connected
rather than –
being lost in my own head
where reality slackens
and i find myself –
lost in the undergrowth –
of nettles and bracken
and who would want to be –
lost in such a place
where madness –
willingly helps me packs my case
where the fruit and the food
has a metallic taste
i need that closeness
physical and mental
to be anchored down –
in our own seabed
not hunkered down –
as the insecurities are easily fed
and my irrational thoughts
become easily led
hold me close like you did last night
and pull me out of despair
my world of brackens and nettles
leaving me feeling scared
love soon becomes less of an idle boast
and it turns into moments –
where we hold each other close
