Only Getting Not Giving – Written October 1997 (Aged 22)

Only Getting Not Giving

i might as well re-bleach my hair
change my identity again
i don’t need a bad reputation
when someone looks at me
and isn’t satisfied with what they see
not satisfied with my looks
then they can go to hell
if they’re not already there…
it’s not worth the effort to care
i might as well admit –
there is a person judging me –
on the way that i look
so looked back and did the same
i won easily, they were so big,
and i have a much smaller frame
with a much more open brain
but of course, at that moment
i had to be as ignorant as possible
to judge someone in that way
to be honest i might as well sell my day –
to the person down the road
the wise old thing –
who knows everything there is to know
it’s a state of being, always living
getting a bad reputation
only getting and not giving
