Straighten Your Tie
straighten your tie
stand in line, stand in the queue
toe that line,
soon we they’ll show you what to do
comb your hair, polish your shoes
smile like a knife
dispose of any point of view
forget who you are,
you’re devoid of personality now
it’s not wanted here
straighten your tie
your career death knell is very near
so, straighten your tie
sit on the window ledge
and wipe that tear from your misty eye
dreams die a death,
if only we could see the smile inside
but they just want more
if you were hoping to realise your ambitions
it’s time to close that door

Straighten Your Tie – Written Monday 11th March 2002 (Aged 22)

That place sucks the life right out of you. You managed to capture that feeling extremely well!

This is better than I thought. I was reading around this pad as well as some new stuff and i thought, I will leave this one, it just looks like ‘angry young man nonsense’. But on reading and typing it, it’s okay actually. At the time work wise, very disillusioned and frustrated and restless. Sometimes these older pieces of writing surprise you. Thank you 🙂

It is nice when that happens. 🙂 Happens to me as well. Mostly, I cringe, but sometimes, when I read older stuff, I’m like, “I wrote that? Cool!” It’s a sweet feeling. 🙂

It doesn’t happen often for me. I’ve said before, the ‘epic pieces’ or statement poems I thought were amazing, often don’t stand the test of time. It’s actually one of the reasons to type everything up, it’s the discovery of the good bits which got lost. I’m also working on an update as well, which I hope you will find interesting.
