Six Pairs of High Heels
maybe they need to grow up
or show up,
and show up to the main event
give the recognition you deserve
but they conspire to rob you
and cause you unintentional hurt
a collection of hangers on
hanging onto sucker punched dreams
six pairs of high heels
and barely held screams
it is a merry-go-round
and life is just a piece of music
with infinite sounds
maybe they need to see you
and maybe they need to cry
just to let it all out
the let downs scurry inside
do we need to ask why
but the need and the why –
have become forgotten smoke
consumed by a hungry sky
love her,
for the person she is
count her brightness by the bulbs –
on the billboard that you construct
for there is a value in that kind of love
