Set To Last
the past is past
it’s pulled up to my house
and then it’s driven away
shame that i mistook it for yesterday
because i thought it had for good
the past is burning
it seems to be made of wood
but i cannot see much for the trees
the past is set to last
i am fighting at the moment
i know, that’s what we all say
because often we are
come and finish my day
sculpt it from the now
not from yesterday
those people just don’t know me
they never will
the past is past
yet it’s still something that i can feel
it remains there
like an unwanted guest
sometimes i do need its comfort
but only on my terms
when will i ever learn?
i thought the past was past
yet it seems set to last
