The Cover of Friends

friends have often had to cover
for where family has failed
with a spirit,
that has had to prevail
friends have often had to cover
and take up the slack
on them i probably depend too much
but i value the strength they have
when it comes to safety,
upon my rails,
they have guided me and never failed
friends have often had to cover
