Symptom of My Age
this contentment
is just a symptom of my age
when i was younger
it was a tale of two extremes
optimism or pessimism
these days i am happy to surf a dream
you gain a sense of realism
as you age
and you realise that only you has the key
the one that opens your cage
this contentment
is laziness in oils
all my so called escape plans
have all been foiled
i have the friends i found along the way
and the family
who have crafted other days
the love,
that helped me feel so well made
this contentment
comes from growing up
even if it at times i was clearly dragged
and not always taught
it’s just a symptom of my age
happiness, readily caught
