You Cannot Fool Me
when i first knew you
i knew what way it would go
because i have seen it before
i know that trauma
and i know that pain
believe me,
i have boarded that train
we all want to be loved –
for who we think we are
we all want to be accepted
and hope no notices our scars
you cannot fool me
and i can see the curtains closed
i have seen it allā
that was my education,
when i was small
i know the stoop,
that comes of trying to walk tall
when i first knew you
my ambition was greater than my ability
you were hanging on
i should have realised
and i should have gone
