Former Best Friend

you like to pat me on the head
and send me on my way
i love you dearly,
but you rarely have time for what i say
i am still the child
and all this, ‘political stuff’
can never be my style
you like to leave me –
at the mercy of your box selection
you arrange your friends
like a true toy collection
i love you dearly,
and i know you are good of heart
but sometimes,
the way you tear me apart
and it has a truly, truly hurtful sound
