Expressions of Emotion

expressions of emotion
often met with a push back
one or steps, too far
do not reveal your emotions
or put them on the line
be a slave to conformity
ordinary should be where you mine
funny is it now,
how politeness is easily forgot
how people quickly mock
with a deliberate tease
just keep your thoughts to yourself
do not reveal too much, please
life it seems should be lived –
expressing the lightest of touch
expressions of emotion row back
they row back quickly and to the shore
where the solitary ones –
grow black grapes in a grove
where ideas flourish but only deep inside
where emotions long to escape
where thoughts dutifully hide
