Puppet Strings

puppet strings
and feeling bold
you should know better
just getting old
you wear a mask
that sits in grooves
when called to task
and it will never be removed
puppet strings
to keep it up
none of it ever sounding right
you have convinced yourself
of the the good person
that you are
trouble is,
that only goes so far
puppet strings
and feeling bold
the lies you have believed
and the lies you have told
they will not keep you warm
when you get old
