Be Habitual – Written Thursday 28th September 2023 (Aged 48)

Be Habitual

take things easy
be habitual
when it comes to falling apart
soapbox conversations
come with poison darts
and my schooling,
lies in the stockroom of a shabby mini-mart
that’s how it is now
as we turn the corners of change
and a generation of soothsayers
duck down and make false claims
take things easy
be careful
about opinions with a hard right
where time is a gas,
and fuel makes them take flight
but it is no more than they deserve
those hedgerows of life,
that we try to swerve
give yourself first prize for your palatial lies
because your sweltering tries
reveal now,
that every day is a bread not yet baked
and the past has coals,
sometimes barely raked
