Lost To Time – Written October 2023 (Aged 48)

Lost To Time

where did it go wrong for us
maybe –
that has been lost to time
i only think about it
as i am propelled back to that time
no regrets,
decisions were made
but why i did destroy everything
with an apparent careless optimism
and such ease,
why has that person never forgiven me
i guess,
big houses and children –
mend wounds over time
or you can put it down to youthful mistakes
like it never happened
i fell out of love with you
because you were in love with things –
that i had never been in love with
goals, that had a lot of take
but not so much give
and in a way,
it was you that left me
long before i left you
i always knew the lure of the flag
the one coloured white and blue
silly young people playing at love
in the end,
when explosions died a death
i felt no sudden rush,
it was always, just always too much
and yet, never quite enough
