Turning Over The Leaves
i have always been an autumn
turning over the leaves
my self esteem and self view,
as thick as thieves
my imagination,
a loft space with the wildest eaves
i have always been an autumn
in need of leaves,
one more season,
just so i can believe
my longing to experience,
a visible weave
i have always been an autumn
turning over new leaves
my ego,
caught with wild birdseed
my ability to stand up tall
often knock kneed,
i have always clung to the branches
of what others mean to me
i have always been an autumn
and that is what i truly believe
