Hometown Lust – Written Wednesday 8th May 2024 (Aged 49)

Hometown Lust

memories, decisions…
they can weigh you down
you move from a time –
when selfishness –
almost caused you to drown
to living a life –
in an unknown town
one where memories –
and decisions wander around
you know,
that they are your memories
and your decisions –
as you watch them peer at you
from shops,
pavements,
pubs and clubs –
all enveloped in that hometown lust
memories,
they add weight to a life –
held up by an older frame
one that keeps jokes,
and childhood board games
one that remembers with clarity
the time you learned your name
but now, with the added years –
decisions,
decisions they can weigh you down
when, for a moment you think
and realise they’re not such a distant sound
