Birthday Rapidly Approach

in moments like this
on rainy,
miserable days,
days covered in a winter mist,
i miss them,
so missed,
in times when the strength
feels hard to muster,
i miss them.
and now,
as birthdays approach
in that way that means
they are never too late,
but they are birthdays
that we no longer celebrate.
maybe,
it’s true,
true that i am too sensitive after all.
maybe,
maybe,
maybe,
no, i know it is true,
because in moments like this
i so miss them.
in these harder days,
i am reminded that those we love
eventually, eventually they go away.
