The Nature of Their Being
They look at you
with blank eyes
and I wonder –
what nourishes them
deep inside,
especially when emotions
become something
in which you can no longer confide.
When love
counts to one hundred
but you continue to hide,
they look at you
with blank eyes
and I wonder –
who decorated their room,
the ones caught in hazy afternoons.
When the sun streams in
yet they do not know where to begin,
I contemplate my feelings,
try to add rationality to their build.
But I know it is the nature of their being,
and there is truth in what I feel.
