Several Concrete Slabs
Today I felt it.
Whatever that thing is —
the thing that pulls us to bits.
But my values,
my values — they are intact.
Even when life has a significant weight,
one similar to several concrete slabs.
And when it comes to my values,
I am always keeping tabs.
But today I felt it.
I did.
I felt it.
The slow passing of winter days,
as they fall and tumble into spring.
And although it’s been so sad recently,
who knows what the future will bring?
I just know that the world is shifting —
my world,
our world,
the world —
it is all shifting.
And for now, no matter how hard we try,
when it comes to the weight of ignorance,
we have to accept
there is no easy lifting.
And today —
today I felt it.
I hoped for better days.
Days away from pain and sadness.
Days when we’re outside once again.
Days when we don’t have to interact with the madness.
Days that are better than this.
Days that I know, at the moment,
we truly miss.
