Simple Days
Another day where the simpler days seemed behind us.
But then we were simpler people,
with straightforward minds.
Do you remember those times,
or did they never really exist?
Points in your personal history —
but perhaps points that are already missed.
These days, capitalism talks from the hip,
but no populist people can steady that ship.
But then we were so hopeful growing up,
moving from children
to so-called adults
to who knows what.
The fear now is that there was once a sweet spot —
and these more challenging times mean it is lost.
Because these days, well,
they are days of right-leaning dictation,
where we count the cost
as they spread misinformation.
What else is there to say,
caught as we are in the swell
of what felt like simpler days.
