Everyone Would like to Be Noticed
On social media,
everyone would like to be noticed,
so they shout,
they scream,
they shout some more
and quickly raise their voice.
Of course,
it’s a choice,
but then, on social media,
everyone would like to be noticed.
They would like to be liked,
to be approved,
to be heard,
and, importantly, to be viewed.
Of course, I turn away
when it comes to shouting
and raised voices.
The sound, the loudness —
it means something different to me,
and I don’t need to raise my voice.
I am not desperate to be noticed,
although
it’s clear there is part of my ego
that sulks in a corner,
wondering why
no one has noticed my ‘genius’.
But the idea
of ‘look at me’
has, for me, come and then gone.
I am in life,
and I am on a difficult mountain pass
when my toxicity
became a disease
and then an urgent task.
So opinions —
the type for which I never voted —
remind me
that on social media
everyone wants to be noticed.
