Grab a Poem
I had a poem,
a verse,
it snuck in
when I was half awake —
caught in dreams,
layered like cake.
I had a thought
and it ran down a hill,
caught as it was
in a ball.
I remembered
bedspreads and being small.
I had a poem,
and I made sure
I grasped all of the verse,
all the words,
but it went from my grasp.
And now,
now I am set to task —
find a verse,
one that fits.
But then I wake up,
and that perfect poem just slips,
slips from my grasp.
