The Late Responsibility

someone said responsibility had died,
no one had noticed and no one appeared to care.
in fact when they held the funeral,
no one was there.
kicked by, ‘not my fault’.
strangled by, ‘someone else is to blame’.
suffocated by a multitude of events,
which have left so many people in pain.

someone said belief had drowned,
in a sea of sleaze,
and outright filth.
apparently decency launched a life boat,
sadly, it was corrupted and badly built.
it sunk as the scarred,
plunged a sword into it’s heart and up to the hilt.

Someone said life was ill,
in intensive care and on a life support machine.
They checked its heartbeat,
but there was no trace of hopes and dreams.
Excuses the latest badge,
the fashion accessory that people appear to wear.
‘Not my fault’, ‘you do that’,
‘I am not to blame’ and ‘you made me do it’.
They all formed a gang,
And in the minds of the ignorant and weak,
found a place in which to hang.

so what badge are you going to wear?
and if there are many funerals for our standards or hope,
will you be there?
