Duet

it would be good
if someone came along
knew not just the chorus
but the whole song
even sang in tune
without going wrong
someone so vivid
and someone strong
i can pass on terms
such as ‘hun’ and ‘babe’
just know the words
before the final fade
i am sick and tired
of the same old reprise
of familiar melodies
and repeated lines
songs with no real meaning
and uncomfortable rhymes 
i want a duet
with actual feeling
not a sorry tale
of someone always leaving
so find my song
and find the verse
sing a duet together
and really believe those words
