I Kick My Past Against a Wall

I Kick my Past Against a Wall

i hang onto words like, ‘love’
whilst i kick my past like a ball –
over a garden fence
when i need them
to come to my defence
the emotions just fall short
so i climb over the fence to get my ball
and then i get caught –
people think, love solves all
just say the word
and that is all that is needed
the only view –
that we will ever need to see
but i need genuine warmth
and someone to understand me
i kick my past against a wall
and my dreams are like a skipping rope
with which i try to avoid falls
i need far more than ifs and buts
and if i really told the truth
i need much more than just touch
i need true understanding
and i cannot chance that to luck
