Fear is Powerful

what to make
of it all
fear is powerful
and it has more pull

going forwards
finding means
helping –
other human beings –
can always be excused
those that peddle fear
know how to change views

what to say
about it all
maintain what is here
just for the powerful,
let the entitled tell you
all this is wonderful?

fear is a weapon
which strikes down us all
it imprisons –
those who fear
it enslaves those
for whom opportunity has not been clear

how do we save this,
this infighting and bickering
as the populists lick their fingers
and try to stop the flames flickering
