Hammer the Nail

i cannot deny
an element of hurt
trickles through
makes cracks
and words run –
down my window pane
filling my eyes with
condensation
the rain –
keeps on falling
why do i have to be –
what you dictate
why can’t i –
just be who i am
you take the identity
you have for me
and treat it like a nail
you hammer and hammer
stop? no, you never fail
