Promised Too Much

in the start
i obviously promised too much
i let someone in
then when it became too much
i asked them to leave
but they had already instilled their baggage
and try as i might,
they would not leave
once let in, they insisted,
that they should be something
they rearranged the furniture
they took my past and discounted it
and when i pleaded with them,
they ignored me and made the pieces fit
i obviously promised too much
and when they attacked me
and caused me hurt
they said it was okay
because they loved me
sure that is not the case
how i have let them down
because i let them in
and i asked them to leave
but they act like a coward
when the problems do not allow you to breathe
in the start
i promised too much
and now i watch it fall it apart
