Day and Night
as long as you see me –
in that funny way
then distance will always be apparent
who would want to come home
if the household thought –
that there was something wrong with you
i have gone through this life
never quite fitting in
and making the best of a bad job
it is weary resignation
to a funny old lot
so those closest
have to always know the shape of my hands
because i just need acceptance
people that understand
as long as you see me
as someone who is, ‘not quite right’
the distance will be the difference –
between day and night
