Peeling Back the Years

i tried to peel back the years
so i could locate her face
i just found further versions of me
and an empty space
she look familiar
pretty, with familiar eyes
i tried to peel back the years
but somethings always hide
i could see her,
in my minds eye, it was all so real
but her name escaped me
all i could find,
were further versions of me
could not locate her name
i tried to peel back the years
but.. it had gone again
i knew her smile
i knew her hair
but, from where?
i tried to peel back the years
so i could remember her face
but,
i just found further versions of me
