The Joke
the joke is on me
and,
this joke is not for free
it has its own –
emotional expense
and the joke is so bad
the cost does not make sense
the joke is on me
and the joke is so clear
yet its smile is vile
and it fills me with fear
the joke is on me
it is such an old friend
who never makes much fuss
but,
the joke is on me
and this joke does not come for free
it has an emotional expense
which is so strangely meant
