The Medical Model

what if –
mental illness –
is not an illness
just life experience
and trauma
what if –
it was only an illness
so that –
society can, ‘other’ people
and medicate them
what if –
mental illness –
was not an illness
but a perfectly –
understandable reaction –
to traumatic life events
what if it was the norms
and not, ‘different’
what if –
the medical model
abandoned, ‘disease and cure’
what if –
it recognised the past and future
what if –
mental illness –
is not an illness
and maybe it accepted people
for what they are
with this idea
surely they could travel far?
