Lines in the Sand

lines in the sand –
have seemingly,
never really appealed
always be –
somewhere that others –
think i should not be
some say it is isolation
some say it is out to sea
but they make me
they look at me,
in ways that often do not flatter
but i know it is important
and i know that it matters
but i know as well,
this self esteem is truly battered
