Charlie’s Poem
they said that this was charlie’s poem
but that’s not true
this is for the person –
for whom dreams never came true
because charlie never got a look in
and charlie never got to choose
in the end charlie was a person
which others decided to use
charlie’s poem was different
it was written,
to a different metre and rhythm
just as charlie coloured to a different patter
the king that frightens
those devoid of imagination
those that pick out others
and self promote their situation
this was never charlie’s poem
that poem i keep somewhere else
under dual purpose lock and key
they said that this was charlie’s poem
but that is by the sweet jar on the shelf
