Flowers In The Garden

i have seen flowers in the garden
i have seen them grow
i have seem them whither
under the frost and heavy snow
i have seem them die,
and how does it really feel
when people look deep inside
a stocktake of your soul
your failures,
your goals,
the stiff upper lip
that should’ve gone with the tall hat
and the thrupenny bit
i have seen the right words spoken
but without any understanding
they just end up all broken
and i have seen flowers in the garden
like self serving tokens
