Most of What I Have Become
most of what i have now become
is made up –
of the things i broke when i was young
most of what –
i am now –
is made up of –
if, when and how
and cooked –
by the notion of somehow
and now –
as another birthday –
looks to shake me out of bed
another birthday,
becomes speckles in my head
another year,
made up of the things we have said
most of which –
i have now become
because most of what –
i have now become
is made of things –
that i broke when i was young
when i had pretty eyes
and childlike language and tongue
when it was on my terms
but in truth, my terms were not fun
and now, made up as i am –
of all the things i broke when i was young
