When It Catches You – Written Sunday 12th October 1997 (Aged 22)

When It Catches You

when the past catches you
it eats you whole
everything i say is well told
everyday is another one gone
the lifestyle never got me
however the cynicism did
along with my aversion to sanity
so i have hid,
and tried to run from responsibility
haven’t we all,
but who will catch you when you fall
hitting twenty five
starting to look at the past
feeling like you’re crawling on the ground –
with bloody knees
who is going to be around
to comfort your needs
getting itchy feet and needing to settle
is this what i have to look forward to
will i crave stability
because i fear i am unsteady
in a couple of years, will i?
or am i there already
is there fear within my eyes
when the past gets you
it’s hard, so hard, but what can you do?
