Clank Clank of Bottles
i realised today
amongst the vocal admission
and the clank clank –
of the bottles
as they were loaded into the boot
that alcohol –
had taken them on an unfriendly route
the type that mental health takes you on
when it fails to open its parachute
they said to me,
i need to get home
and the first thing i will do –
is open that bottle of wine
i thought to myself –
this is where we cross lines
and i wondered how i –
managed to cling on all these years
to what i had always thought of –
as my own vestiges of sanity
perhaps my own self indulgence was just that
life as a series of social constructs
is very complicated
westernised privileges
do little to stem mental flux and decay
as they confessed their relationship –
with alcohol
that became apparent today
