The Colour of Soft Clay – Written Sunday 15th April 2007 (Aged 32)

The Colour of Clay

she said –
i never have much luck with men
and then,
i did not know what to say
with her swimming pool eyes
that reflected the colour of soft clay

she said –
last night i cried myself to sleep
and in that moment i felt a hand reach out
as my emotions collapsed into a heap
my desire to help,
had gagged and bound me to my seat

she said –
you always listen
and it’s true, i always did
but in that moment,
i felt helpless and inadequate
watching my pride as it snuck off and hid

    1. Thank you. I remember writing it but I can’t remember who it is about which is a bit sad. I wish I’d noted some of these with who they were about. I built it around the swimming pool eyes line. Titles nearly always come last. In fact, a lot of this writing was no more than private jottings. That’s the joy of sorting some of them up.
