I Know What You Need – Written Sunday 14th August 2005 (Aged 30)

I know What You Need

i know what you need
because i saw it on the platform
from the train,
just as it was about to leave
but the train pulled forward
and though i wanted to reach out
i just couldn’t open the door
so i sat down on my seat
i was tired with expectation
and as i looked,
i watched life going by
so i wondered about my destination
and thought about time as it flies
i know what you need
because i saw it in a shop window
it was next to the question that it posed
i wanted to walk inside,
but the shop was already closed
so i put my hands on the window
i thought about how things might have been
and how slowly we let go
but i know what you need
